A pictorial explanation of US healthcare
In ELI5 (Explain it Like I’m 5) format
US healthcare works by taking money from people’s paychecks and using that to pay for other people’s healthcare. This is normally called “socialized medicine,” but in the US we don’t call it that.
The US form of socialized medicine has a lot more bureaucrats than normal socialized medicine. We call these extra bureaucrats “insurance companies.”
Because we have so many bureaucrats, our costs are really high. The US healthcare bureaucracy takes $26,000 out of the paychecks of a typical worker with a family. It should only have to take $13,000.
People would be really angry about this $26,000 being taken from them, but they don’t see it happening. They only see $6,000 taken out of their paychecks for healthcare. The other $20,000 is hidden from sight.
The healthcare industry wants to keep taking this extra money from workers. So it tells people that getting rid of the extra bureaucrats is socialist.
The end.
